Tent Repair Kit: The Five Things That Save a Trip

James HerrinJames Herrin·1 min read·

A broken pole or a torn fly does not have to end a trip if you packed the right five things. Most tent failures are small, and small fixes keep you sleeping warm.

Build a repair kit that weighs almost nothing.

  • Tenacious tape patches rips in fly and floor
  • A pole splint sleeve slides over a snapped section
  • Extra guylines replace the one the wind stole
  • Replacement stakes for the ones the rocks bent

Toss it in the bottom of the tent bag and forget it. The one trip you need it, that handful of ounces is worth more than the tent itself.

Wrap the tape around a spare stake to save space. The whole kit rolls into a bundle the size of a candy bar and rides unnoticed until the bad night.
