Glove Systems That Keep Fingers Warm Wet

James HerrinJames Herrin·1 min read·

Cold hands end hikes early. The mistake is usually a single pair of gloves asked to do everything, when real cold needs a system that works even when soaked.

Build the glove stack.

  • A thin liner wicks sweat and dries inside the shell
  • A fleece mid layer holds heat without bulk
  • A waterproof shell sheds rain and wind
  • Carry a spare liner because dry beats thick

Swap liners before your hands sweat through. Once the inner layer is wet, no shell on earth brings the warmth back until you dry it out.

Throw a pair of thin liner gloves in your pocket for the descent. The moment your main gloves wet out, the dry liners are the difference between finishing and bailing.
