Camp Lighting Beyond the Headlamp

James HerrinJames Herrin·1 min read·

A headlamp lights your face and your task, but it does a poor job of lighting a campsite. A few cheap extras turn a dark camp into a comfortable evening.

Light the camp, not just your hands.

  • A string of tiny LED lights turns the tent into a lantern
  • A small collapsible lantern sits on the table hands-free
  • Hang a light from the tarp ridgeline to light the whole circle
  • A red filter keeps the mood and saves night vision

Camp is for relaxing, and squinting in the dark ruins it. A little extra light makes the long evening the best part of the day.

A few feet of string lights run on the same batteries as your headlamp. Light the tarp ridgeline and the whole campsite turns warm in a minute.
