Camp Coffee Without the Fancy Gear

James HerrinJames Herrin·1 min read·

Bad camp coffee is a tragedy with an easy fix. You do not need a pour-over setup and a scale to get a good cup at sunrise, just a little method.

Keep it simple and strong.

  • A fine mesh pour-over cone is cheap and nearly indestructible
  • Pre-grind beans at home and seal them tight
  • Boil water, wait thirty seconds, then pour slow
  • Instant packets work when weight is everything

Sunrise with a real cup of coffee turns a cold morning into the best moment of the trip. Do not overthink it, just make it good.

Pre-portion your coffee into tiny bags before the trip. Morning is hard enough without digging through the pack for a scoop and a scale.
